When you choose aïr, you can have peace of mind that you have purchased a market-leading product, which has been manufactured to the highest quality standards, compliant with Building Regulations, British standards and security standards. Your aïr doors are manufactured from aluminium, a robust and durable material, which will not rot, warp or twist. Aluminium doors have a lifespan of up to 45 years, so to keep them operating smoothly during their lifetime, simply follow the steps below.
Important: Never use aggressive cleaning materials or knives, steel wool, metal scrapers, or sandpaper to clean aluminium doors.
Step 1: Maintenance of the drainage slots – check the chamber between the moving parts and the fixed part every six months. If necessary, clear the drainage slots of any blockings.
Step 2: Maintenance of the rails – dirt can collect in the bottom profile of your door. Clean the gutters every month. Clear the drainage holes of any blockages and remove the dirt, dust, grease, and graphite annually from the rail with a cloth.
Step 3: Maintenance of the gaskets – clean using a cloth and soapy water.
Step 4: Maintenance of the hardware and accessories – remove the dust, grease and graphite from the following areas: –
Step 5: Door locks – check annually, look out for wear and tear, and talk to an accredited retailer if there are any damaged or worn parts. Moveable and lock parts have to be oiled, and the cylinder can be maintained by using graphite powder.
Step 6: Door hinges – in general, hinges are maintenance-free and don’t need to be greased.
Step 7: Cleaning the glass panels – you can use an off-the-shelf window cleaning product or a solution of distilled vinegar and water. Whatever solution you use, spray it onto the glass and wipe with a clean microfibre cloth, not paper towels.
If you live in a city, near the sea, or airports, motorways or railways, your aluminium bi-fold doors will need to be cleaned a little more often, due to the dust or salt in the air.
To protect your investment, general maintenance is essential and will ensure your aluminium bi-fold doors are in tip-top shape for years to come.
